Gedi on karo, Chandigarh.

ਗੇੜੀ ਆਨ ਕਰੋ ਚੰਡੀਗੜ੍ਹ

GediChat is a social app built around gedi culture — the Chandigarh tradition of cruising routes with music. Go live on the map, see who you cross paths with, wave, and chat when it's mutual.

How it works

No swiping. No algorithms.
Just proximity.

  1. 01

    Go live on your route

One tap puts your pin on the map. You see who else is out right now, route by route.

  2. 02

    Send a Hy

See someone interesting? Wave. If they wave back, a chat unlocks. One-way Hys stay invisible.

  3. 03

    Chat and vibe

Talk, share the song you're playing, post GC Stories, and build real connections from your own city.

What's in the app

Eight things GediChat does.

  • 01

    Live map presence

One tap to go live on your route. Your pin appears on the map — see who's out right now, route by route. The map shows presence, never tracking: your exact location is never shared.

  • 02

    Hy — the mutual wave

Chat unlocks only when both people wave. One-way Hys stay invisible, so there are no stranger DMs and no inbox of unknowns. Enforced by our backend, not just the interface.

  • 03

    GC Stories

Photo and video moments from the route, gone in 24 hours. A camera built for the night — pinch to zoom, tap to focus — with full control over who sees each story.

  • 04

    AI spot tagging

Post a GC from a dhaba and it tags itself — “at Pal Dhaba.” Gemini-powered recognition matches the photo and location to the spot, asks nothing of you, and can be removed with one tap before posting. Your exact coordinates are never stored.

  • 05

    Music as identity

The song playing in your car shows on your map pin — synced from Spotify or Apple Music, or picked up automatically by Gedi Music. Community charts show what gediers are actually playing tonight.

  • 06

    Gedi Music

The soundtrack of the scene, captured with respect: opt-in, only while you're live on a Gedi, and never through your microphone — it simply reads what your music app is already playing.

  • 07

    GC Passport

Your QR identity. Scan to connect in person — at meetups, at gatherings, on the route.

  • 08

    Crossed paths

Find out when you and another gedier crossed on the route tonight. Maybe wave next time.

Privacy

Presence, not tracking.

A social app built on where people are has to be careful about where people are. GediChat is designed so that being visible on the route never means handing over your movements.

You are on the map only when you choose to be. What others see is that you're out — not a trail of where you've been.

  • 01

Your exact location is never shared

The map communicates presence on a route, not coordinates.

  • 02

    No stranger DMs

A chat cannot exist until both people have waved — and that rule is enforced in the backend.

  • 03

Coordinates aren't stored for spot tags

A spot tag is suggested and removable with one tap. Your exact coordinates are never stored.

  • 04

Music is opt-in and never the microphone

Only while you're live on a Gedi, and only by reading what your music app is already playing.

Under the hood

Serverless — and careful about what it asks a model to do.

  • A

    Fully serverless on Firebase

GediChat runs entirely on Firebase. No servers of our own sit between the app and its users, which is what lets a small team operate a real-time, city-wide social app.

  • B

The wave is a backend rule

A one-way Hy is invisible because the chat does not exist until both sides have waved. Enforcing that in the backend rather than the interface means there is no way to talk around it from the app.

  • C

    AI spot tagging, GPS first

When a GC Story is posted, the phone's location is matched against known spots. Only when that can't settle it does Gemini look at the photo. Vision is the tiebreaker, not the first resort.

  • D

    Music read, not heard

Music status comes from what your music app is already playing — Spotify, Apple Music, or Gedi Music — rather than from listening to the car.

01

A GC Story is posted

Photo or video, with the phone's location at capture.

02

Location match first Default

Matched against known spots. A clean match tags the spot — done.

03

Gemini reads the photo Tiebreaker

Only when location can't settle it does the image go to Gemini to break the tie.

04

“at Pal Dhaba” — or one tap to remove

The tag is suggested, never imposed. Coordinates are not stored.

“People go for gedi every single day. They all know each other by faces, cars, and numbers, but they never get in touch. GediChat changes that. Connecting people who cross paths makes our drives more connected and the city feel more alive.”
